JAG does not provide guidance on how unresponsive surveillance patients are managed but the service should have clinical safety and efficiency at the fore-front of managing surveillance lists.
Services must have their own agreed booking protocols that must include what happens if patients fail to respond. It's also advisable to follow letters up with a phone call in case patients haven't updated their address.
The service should develop a strict practice that the patients and their referring clinicians must be aware of. Patients that fail to conform to this process can then be removed from the surveillance list.
The patient and their referring clinicians must be made aware that they have been removed from the list and the reasons why.
