High level disinfection is best practice for any heat sensitive flexible endoscope using an automated endoscope washer/disinfector.
Endoscopes without channels, for example nasoendoscopes, due to logistical issues or availability of AERs are sometimes disinfected using the Tristel 3 stage wiping system. All staff members should be adequately trained in this by the manufacturer and signed off as competent.
At the end of the list the scopes should always go through an automated process and have a robust tracking and traceability process in place.
Naso Endoscopy/Rhinoscopy is an ENT procedure and should not be confused with Trans nasal endoscopy (TNE) where the scopes have a lumen and cannot be Tristel wiped.
