To start the process of the bowel cancer screening accreditation (BCSA) programme, the candidate is nominated by their local team. Prospective applicants must be attached to a screening centre and have been approved to participate by the National Cancer Screening Programmes Office.
1) The screening centre programme manager downloads the colonoscopy 'New Screener request form' from the BCSA website via the apply page.
2) Once the screening centre programme manager completes the form with the candidate details, they send the application form to the regional QA contact for approval.
3) The regional QA team reviews the application form and once the form is approved, they send the form to the national team (PHE.National-Bowelhub@nhs.net) for a final review before they send it to askJAG@rcp.ac.uk
4) The JAG office creates the user account on the BCSA website to allow the candidate to complete their application. The candidate will receive an automated email confirming their login details.
5) The JAG office sends a confirmation email to the candidate (copying in the programme manager) to advise them to begin their application.
6) The candidate will complete their application, obtain approval from their screening centre director and programme manager, and submit the application online to JAG.
7) The JAG office reviews the application, if clarification or additional data is required, the candidate and programme manager will be informed. Once the application is approved, the candidate is able to complete the MCQ at their local screening centre.
8) The screening centre administrator will set up the MCQ for the candidate to complete the MCQ.
9) If the MCQ is passed, the candidate is sent a list of available assessment date(s) via email. The assessment centre will contact the candidate for further details regarding the assessment date. Payment is made to and organised by the assessment centre.
10) The candidate completes DOPS assessment.
11) If the candidate passes the DOPS assessment, and the signed application form has been received by the JAG office (scanned and uploaded on their BCSA account) and no follow-up is required from the candidate, results are sent to the candidate with NHS England or NHS Wales Cc'd.
