Unfortunately, we no longer accept alternate courses in lieu of a basic skills course.
The process of JAG certification has been well advertised since 2011. JAG certification provides a quality assurance that all elements of the certification process have been achieved. The individual trainee is responsible for ensuring that all these elements are achieved prior to applying for certification. Trainees should ideally attend a basic skills course towards the start of their training. If they are unable to achieve this early in training then they are still required to attend the course. This process ensures that all trainees have been exposed to the same training. The JAG courses that are mandatory for certification have been extensively peer-reviewed and approved for both content and delivery. They cover both endoscopic and non-endoscopic outcomes as outlined in the respective JAG curricula. Although other courses may well cover some of the same ground, they have not been subjected to the same review process and are therefore not accepted for certification.
